Mortgage Adviser Event Manchester will feature a new series of protection workshops designed to help brokers stay ahead in the current climate and the year to come.
Chaired by Protection Reporter Editor Tabitha Lambie, Let’s Talk Protection will feature four workshops designed to keep brokers up to date on shifting customer milestones, protection conversations, referrals, and Consumer Duty.
In the first session, ‘Later Life Milestones – A New Blueprint for Protection’, HSBC Life’s Group Head of Distribution Claire Bostock will be joined by other industry experts to look at how the average age of first-time buyers has shifted drastically over the past 50 years, the profound impact this has had on insurance industries, and the protection gaps that customers now face at key points in their journey.
Following this, ‘Adviser Tools for Protection Conversations’ will help brokers to discover practical tools and approaches that open up protection discussions with customers and ensure that it remains a central part of every mortgage conversation.
The third workshop, ‘If you Can’t Write it, Refer it’, will focus on the value of referral partnerships for advisers who do not specialise in protection, how it works and why “referring rather than avoiding” benefits both the customer and the adviser.
Finally, the fourth session of the day, ‘Spotting Vulnerability Red Flags in Protection Advice’, will provide brokers with practical guidance on recognising key red flags that highlight vulnerability in customers, supportive communication strategies, and how protection can help those most at risk.
MAE Manchester will take place on 24th September at Bowlers Exhibition Centre, and will feature over 50 exhibitors representing lenders, providers and ancillaries from across the UK mortgage and protection industry.
In addition, the event will also feature 7 more seminars across the Main Theatre and Futures Theatre, exploring everything from the FTB affordability squeeze and specialist lending to building societies and tech & AI in the home buying process.
Pepper Money UK’s Retreat Zone will also return following an overwhelmingly positive response at MAE London, and will include guided breathwork and wellbeing sessions, as well as being a space for attendees to simply sit and unwind.
MAE Manchester is free to attend for all intermediaries, with free parking on-site and a free lunch available for all attendees.

Editor of Protection Reporter, Tabitha Lambie, said: “To reduce the protection gap, mortgage brokers must cross into ‘unfamiliar territory’ and educate themselves on protection, whether that’s individual or group risk products. Buying a first home is the most common milestone for taking out protection, so mortgage brokers are perfectly positioned to write it - or refer it.
“These workshops offer practical guidance to assist mortgage brokers with protection conversations, from adviser tools to identifying vulnerable customers.”
Mortgage Adviser Event founder, Andy Shields, said: “We are so excited to be adding the Let’s Talk Protection series to our events programme at MAE Manchester.
“In today’s ever-evolving market, it’s vital that brokers understand the importance of protection and stay informed on how it can help their customers and their business, so it’s a no-brainer that these in-depth, expert-led sessions would be a part of the educational content on offer.”
